Young teenager Sam Witwicky becomes involved in the ancient struggle between two extraterrestrial factions of transforming robots – the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons. Sam holds the clue to unimaginable power and the Decepticons will stop at nothing to retrieve it.

The show takes place ten years after the finale of Armada, opening in an age of peace on Cybertron and Earth which is destined not to last long. Energon pits the Autobots against an array of villains: the reborn Megatron , the barely functional Unicron, and the mysterious Alpha Q and his Terrorcon minions.

Beast Wars II refers to the 1998 Japanese Transformers television animated series, and the movie and toyline that resulted from it. The series was preceded by Beast Wars, and was followed by Beast Wars Neo. The series has a much lighter tone and is aimed more towards children, whereas the more accessible Beast Wars was intended for a wider age range. The series also uses conventional animation rather than CGI like Beast Wars: Transformers. With the exceptions of the faction leaders, all of the characters within the series are either re-molds or re-colors of earlier Beast Wars figures or Generation 2/Machine Wars figures. Transformers: Cybertron, known in Japan originally as Transformers: Galaxy Force, is the 2005-2007 Transformers toy line and animated series, another co-production between Hasbro and Takara. It was aired in Japan as a separate rebooted transformers series, though in America, the English dub was presented as a sequel to the previous series, Transformers: Armada and Transformers: Energon by adding dialogue and reusing a number of screens to link elements of the Armada and Energon series to the show, giving the impression that it is a sequel. In the anime, all of the Transformers are computer-generated, while the humans and backgrounds are rendered in traditional 2D animation. It is the last series in the Transformers franchise to be produced in Japan.

Triple Combination: Transformers Go! is an animated series available via DVDs packaged with TV Magazine and TV-Kun. It was created to promote the new characters sold in the toyline and ostensibly takes place after events inspired by the Beast Hunters portion of Transformers: Prime. The story ignores the events of the third season of Prime, stemming instead from a truncated cliffhanger created specifically for the final episode of the Japanese dub of Prime, which left everyone's fate ambiguous instead of ending on the Decepticons' victory from the English version. The series is formatted into two concurrent chapters of episodes, each one assigned to one of the two magazines and focusing on a specific protagonist group. The "Samurai Chapter" began with the August 2013 issue of TV-Kun and highlights the Swordbot Samurai Team, while the "Shinobi Chapter" began with the September 2013 issue of TV Magazine and centers on the Swordbot Shinobi Team.

As humanity picks up the pieces, following the conclusion of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," Autobots and Decepticons have all but vanished from the face of the planet. After the end of the Beast Wars, the Maximals awaken on their home planet of Cybertron and are chased by mindless Vehicons created by Megatron. The Maximals must free the planet from Megatron and restore it to its real way of living.
